Why is it...?

5 musings of a teacher…

1. Why is it that my principal is the highest paid person on campus but can’t afford pants that fit?

2. Why is it that the one kid whose name I don’t know will throw mashed potatoes in the cafeteria? “Hey you…….boy!”

3. Why is it that 13 year-old boys feel it necessary to cover themselves head-to-toe in Axe body spray? (Damn you, Unilever…damn you to hell!)

4. Why is it that my guidance counselor can’t guide or counsel?

5. Why is it that we enroll students and find out about their criminal records afterwards?

One reason I am afraid of this generation eventually running the country:

I so laughed at #3 and #4 is so true. I've never heard of a guidance counselor yet who is good at his/her job. Way back when I was in high school the guidance counselor at the school I went to lipsticked her teeth!! I mean how can you trust someone who doesn't even know how to put on lipstick with decisions that affect the rest of your life????

Yes Kristie, I think our G.C. majored in coffee drinking and gossiping, because that is about all she can do. It's very frustrating because some of these kiddies need some real help.

As for number 3 *shaking head* I had to take away three more bottles in the hallway yesterday and I totally blame those commercials!

Being a teacher is a great thing. Being a 13 year old is also a great thing. Being a person who comments on the virtues of being a teacher and being a 13 year old is of dubious value. To the best of my knowledge there has never been a 13 year old teacher who comments on the virtue of teachers and 13 year olds. Given enough time, there will be.

Hi Fiona - first time here

God I remember my poor brother couldn't catch a break - when he was younger (under 13) we'd rib him horribly about how he smelled. My parents used his shoes to scare off deer. When he took us seriously he bathed in aftershave and none of us had the heart to tell him he'd gone to the dark side.

My best bud is a teacher and I love her but I think her thoughts would run along the lines of 'teaching would be great without the kids'.

Sooo, is the principal wearing pants that are too tight are too large? ;)

Welcome CindyS!

I love the kids! They are the enjoyable part of my job, its the adults I could do without.

As for the pants...they are too short! Perhaps it is because they are having to cover more square footage in the middle or they are just being put in the dryer. Either way, its a difficult sight.
