Summer Detox

Every year Linc and I go through what I have lovingly started to refer to as our summer detox. We always start the year off well, trying to be healthy and watch our weight, but somewhere between December and January that all goes to hell. Hence, the summer detox.

Here it is in a nutshell: all weeks build on top of themselves

Week 1 and 2:
Stop all soda-nothing carbonated
No desserts, cookies, cakes, pies or candy
Drink lots of water
3o minute beach walks

Week 3 and 4:
Oatmeal for breakfast
No fried foods (once a week cheat allowed)
Minimum of 4 glasses of water every day
1 hour beach walks

Week 5 and 6:
No prepackaged meals
Stop coffee and move to tea
8 glasses of water every day
1.5 hour beach walks

Week 7 and 8:
No caffeine
2 hour beach walks

Weeks 9-11:
Maintain
Count calories

Week 12: Work begins
Limit caffeine intake to one cup a day
Try to walk 30 minutes after work
Pre-packaged meals allowed but try for fresh on the weekends

Feel free to partake of the summer detox program if you would like! Please note that I am in no way a dietician or medical advisor and I probably forgot something too.

Last year I did this religously and lost 22 pounds over summer break. What a great way to start the year! And I kept the weight off until...December, then it slowly started to creep back on.

A two hour beach walk? That's like walking on marbles! I wish the way to get to stuff was through water because I so love to swim. Walking - not so much.

It's actually not bad. We don't have shells, well, very few, so the sand is smooth. It is the sinking and having to step out of it that makes it work.

I'll take walking over a gym or Curves any day!

I love beach walks too. Only problem is, I'd have to drive over 2 hours to get to one. I have however started an eating & walking program (last week) & hope to eventually lose weight.

Are you walking in the neighborhood Amanda?

We don't have tracks or anything so it is either the beach or the sidewalk next to the highway. Breathing in all those car fumes sort of negates the healthy lifestyle, don't you think?
